Canadian Mosaic - Set I

Mosaic Canada: The concept of Canada as a "mosaic" that encourages the survival of ethnic cultures is defined and contrasted with the "melting pot" theory of the United States.

British Canadians: The waves of British immigration to Canada and the importance of the British culture in the development of Canada as an independent nation are examined.

French Canadians: The difficulties French Canadians have faced in Canada are explored, and students will develop an awareness of the contribution of French Canadian culture to the Canadian mosaic.

Native Canadians: The traditional cultures and lifestyles of Canada's native Indian and Inuit peoples are explored and examined in terms of how their cultures and lifestyles were changed by the coming of European settlers to Canada.
