     Family Life: The domestic frontier activities such as cooking, sewing, and entertainment, are illustrated.

      Foods: Discusses the pioneer methods of preserving foods and curing meat. The growing and harvesting of vegetables, preservation methods, flavoring methods, and weekly preparations for the baking of bread are described.

      Crafts: The domestic crafts of spinning wool, weaving cloth, candle making, hooking rugs, and tool making in the pioneer community are clearly demonstrated.

      Work and Trade: The livelihoods of a merchant, a blacksmith, a sawyer, and others are vividly described.

      School and Recreation: Learning activities in a one-room pioneer school, families relaxing following their daily chores, a spelling bee, and a quilting bee are all depicted.

      Farm Life: How a pioneer farmer plowed, harrowed, and seeded to produce wheat and harvest a flax crop which provided clothing and linen for the family.
