Proud Past - Promising Future: The History of Blacks in Ontario
Intermediate - Secondary

A two-hundred-year history of Blacks in Ontario, shown in the context of the political events that forged Canada as an emerging, young nation. This video encompasses eight periods of Black history: beginning with the introduction of slavery to Upper Canada and the struggle for freedom through the formation of viable Black communities to and including the dynamic contribution of Blacks in Canada today. The universal contemporary issues of human rights and discrimination are given new meaning and historical depth when seen within the context of the struggle of Ontario Blacks.
