Elements and Principles of Design Posters

These colorful and graphic posters, 17 x 22-in., are designed to take the mystery out of the elements and principles of design and help your students develop their knowledge and skills so that they can create imaginative art.

Each poster has one large reproduction of a major master work plus diagrams that clearly illustrate the element or principle being taught.

There are approximately five additional examples of each element and principle to further define each particular concept as it appears in paintings, sculpture, architecture, or nature. Each 17 x 22-in. poster is printed on heavy cardstock with a protective coating.

The seven elements of design--value, color, form, shape, line, space, and texture are each explored and clearly explained with diagrams and hands-on demonstrations. These include paintings, collages, and sculpture, and examples of elements seen in nature, architecture, and art reinforce the concepts. 30 min.

Principles of Design

In this program, Gerald Brommer shows how the elements of design are combined and used in developing the seven principles of design: contrast, rhythm, unity, emphasis, pattern, movement, and balance. A series of demonstrations are combined with diagrams, artwork, and  scenes from nature. 29 min.

Teacher's Guide

A Teacher's Guide is available separately and includes the major concepts for each element and principle, a reference illustration of each poster, learning objectives, and suggested art activities for different levels of instruction. 32 pages. 8-1/2 x 11-in.
