Lute Family
Upper Elementary - Intermediate

The Lute Family is designed to give students a knowledge of the multicultural background of many of today's stringed instruments. Students will learn each instrument's country of origin, its distinguishing features, how it differs from others in the family, and its characteristic sounds. Instruments covered include: the lute (Europe), sitar (India), p'ip'a (China), biwa (Japan), balalaika (Russia), oud (Persia and Arabia), mandolin (Italy), ukelele (Hawaii), and guitar (the Americas).

Raffaella and the Mandolin, is a 48-page colour and black and white illustrated history of the stringed instruments in the Lute family.
