an introduction to the wilderness and to environmentally sound camping.
The program surveys a variety of terrain and facilities, analyzes basic
requirements for planning, food, clothing and equipment, and stresses
the importance of ecologically sound practices. Camping Without
A Trace raises the ecological issues that involve the use of the
wilderness, as well as demonstrates practical skills.
Lure
of the Wilderness:
The importance of the wilderness for plant life, wildlife, and
for man is discussed. The impact of man in the wilderness is analyzed.
Planning
and Preparations:
In addition to dealing with questions of attitude, the students
evaluate and prepare clothes, food, and equipment.
Camping
Trip: Good camping practices are shown by example. Site choice and
preparation, food preparation, and the breaking of camp are the focus.
