Ecology: Exploration and Discovery
Upper Elementary - Intermediate CLASSIC

This vividly photographed program explores the natural environments of plants and animals. Simple classroom experiments enable students to acquire a better understanding of living organisms, food chains, and the elements that compose a natural ecosystem.

ML048-1      Organisms and Environment: The factors that are essential for the growth and development of plants and animals are examined with growth chamber experiments.

ML048-2      Food Chains: The relationship between algae and daphnia is examined. Students are able to see that while plants produce their own food using light, water, soil and air, animals are totally dependent on plants for food.

ML048-3      Habitat: Students prepare a terrarium to examine the natural habitat of plants and animals.

ML048-4      Populations: Students explore a field near their school and collect samples of plants and animals to make a "population" survey.

ML048-5      Plant and Animal Communities: A forest community is investigated to show the dependence of plant and animal populations on each other.

ML048-6      Ecosystems: The environmental, physical, and organic elements that compose a natural ecosystem are examined. The roles of human beings within ecosystems are explored.
