Primary - Intermediate CLASSIC

Examines the process of pioneer settlement, the procedure of land development leading to subsistence farming, and the growth of specialization in crafts and services. Students are provided with a thorough understanding of pioneer life in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

       Transportation: The evolution of pioneer transportion from walking, to canoes and rafts, carts, steamboats and trains is presented.

        Commerce: Illustrates the development of commercial enterprise in pioneer time. The roles of the blacksmith, cabinet maker, and shoemaker are shown.

        Furniture and Household Goods: The homes and utensils used by early settlers are illustrated. Candle dipping, grinding wheat, soap making, churning, spinning, and curing meat are demonstrated.

        Making of a Farm: Explains the procedures for building log cabins. Wheat, corn, and flax are shown from sowing to harvest.

        Community Life: Barn building, social events, schooling, and religious meetings are shown as examples of pioneer village life and social cooperation.
